The Kanabec History Center offers various workshops throughout the year. Up coming workshops include:

4 Photography Workshops

Photography can be a fun, invigorating and enlightening way to capture and share the world we see and experience. The advent of digital cameras has made photography so much more accessible and at the same time, more confusing. These workshops are designed to explain photography in understandable terms in a fun setting. Sign up for any workshop or combination of workshops by calling the Kanabec History Center 320-679-1665 or stopping in at 805 West Forest Avenue in Mora at the History Center 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Tuesdays through Saturdays.

Wed. Nov. 4 Digital Camera Basics
(7-to 9 p.m.) Fee: $25

Buying a digital camera can be an awesome and overwhelming endeavor. All those choices!!! This workshop is designed to provide basic information for those intending to purchase a new digital camera or for those who have just purchased a camera and it hasn’t quite made it out of the box yet.
Max: 10 people

Thurs. Nov. 5 Understanding the Camera
(7 to 9:30 p.m.) Fee: $25

Designed for those who have taken this workshop before, it will be a refresher on the basics of digital photography. Even if you haven’t taken the workshop, it will help you understand your digital camera since cameras have advanced greatly since the days of simply “point and shoot.” Even the smallest camera has a lot more capability than most photographers are aware of. In this workshop, we will discuss how a camera works, the difference between SLR and point and shoot cameras, film cameras and digital cameras. We will spend time negotiating the menus and options of digital cameras. Open to all levels, both digital and film cameras.
Max: 10 people

Wed. Nov. 18 Opening the Photographer's "Eye"
(7 to 9 p.m.) Fee: $25

In this workshop we will discuss what makes a pleasing photograph rather than just a snapshot. We will discuss composition-just what goes into creating a pleasing image. Photography literally means to “write with light “ so we will discuss how to work with light. We will discuss people photography-how to get great shots of family and friends. We will also cover processing, both at home and in outlabs. Open to all levels, digital and film cameras, point and shoot and SLR. Max: 30

Mon. Nov. 23 Take Your Camera Off Automatic

(7 to 9:30 p.m.) Fee: $25

Today's cameras have automatic exposure settings that will give the correct exposure in most situations. However, there are situations when one wants to override the automatic settings and control the shutter speed and aperture or create special effects. We will discuss aperture and shutter speeds and other factors like ISO that affect getting a more correctly exposed image. Appropriate for SLR camera owners.
Max: 10 people
